Take Off “Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind” is set to launch to the public on May 27,2022. This new ride is an indoor rollercoaster designed to take the rider through a series of exciting thrills and spins as the coaster flies through the galaxy and saves earth. This ride is a fun family thrill ride. It features the first ever reverse-launch in a rollercoaster at a Disney Park. This is also one of the largest enclosed rollercoasters in the whole galaxy! Construction for this project began in August 2017 as part of the massive remodel of Epcot. This coaster is designed to take you on an adventure with the Guardians of the Galaxy in a fun, innovative, and immersive way.
The Mission Evaluation
While I have not yet rode this ride, I have seen the video recordings online. From what I have seen, this ride is not one that I would want to plan a whole Disney vacation trip just to get on this ride. This ride seems to just be an updated version of the iconic Space Mountain. The route that the car takes seems to be almost identical to what Space Mountain has created. The only thing that sets Guardians apart from Space Mountain is that the visual effects are stunning and the cars are designed to spin as they go through the story. From what I can see and read, it just does not seem like a ride that is worth going to Epcot for only to ride this ride.
Now, I have to admit the storyline and queue are honestly impressive. The story takes riders through a museum of the planet Xandar. The set pieces in this queue are stunning. It almost looks as if you are in a real intergalactic space station. With a great performance from Terry Crews guiding you through the station, you are bound to get some entertainment as he portrays a funny likeable space commander. It really is the queue that brings this attraction to life. With great design, great actors, and awesome storytelling, the queue carries more of the entertainment value in this attraction than the ride does.
The Landing
In my opinion, this ride does not deliver on the hype. The roller-coaster design itself is not terribly thrilling and does not deliver any more differently than the more well known Space Mountain. While this coaster design may be the first of its kind to a Disney park, it is not the first and only of its kind to exist in the industry. Although there may be many highlights in this ride with the queue, visual effects, and the catchy music that plays as you go, it is not enough to lift to the magnitude of the experience this ride demands. Final verdict, this is not a ride you should dedicate a whole Disney vacation to. If I were at the park, I would ride it, but only if the wait time is less than 40 minutes. Great innovation, but it does not deliver to be a truly iconic and innovative ride for Disney Parks.
